I know, that's make you go "What did she say? Did she REALLY MAKE BUTTER?" Um, yeah, I did. I'm rather proud of it too! I came across a recipe for it via a friend of facebook who directed me to Bella Cantina and this post. I also made the PW Potatoes the other day. And that Apple Dumpling recipe looks so yummy and easy.
Anyway, I made butter. I used the food processor like the directions said. Instead of doing it by hand, I then tossed the butter in to my newly aquired Kitchen Aid Mixer (thank you Income Tax Return!) and worked it that way. After doing all of the washing and letting the mixer work it a bit, I added some honey. It is OH SO GOOD!! Jayden helped with the food processor part.
Considering I have a small processor that only holds 3 cups of solid at a time, I bought it more to help with making puree out of veggies and fruits for baby food, I had to do it three times. Put in the cream, then hold the button for about 5 min until it got to the butter/buttermilk stage. Out of the quart of heavy cream, I'd say I got about a pound of butter (yes a pound!) and close to 2 cups of buttermilk. I have another quart in the fridge so I think that next time I'm going to try the whole thing with the mixer, first with the whisk, and then the mixer beater. I figure if you can use a Kitchen Aid to make merengue you can use it to make butter, and it would save me a few steps considering the bowl is 2 1/2 or 3 quarts, something like that. With the next batch I'm going to do garlic butter.
OK, I know this may seem like a trivial thing to be super geeked about. However, at Thanksgiving, I'm always searching for honey butter and I have such a hard time finding it. So now, I no longer need to search. I can take about 45 minutes and make up some myself! We went through a 9 pack of Thomas' English Muffins this morning enjoying our butter! Next time I do it, I'll take pics to share the process with you all.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and find joy in the trivial things! Prayers and blessings everyone.

Probed by Avitable via SciFi Dad
I'm playing along here. I said "interview me" so here are the "thought bending, mind probing" 5 questions that SciFi Dad came up with. By the way, he's funny and I recommend reading him regularly, hint hint Jason.
1. How often do you get google search hits from people looking for Cheerios?
I have no idea because my site counter doesn't tell me about google searches. I've thought about using one that does, but then I'm afraid I'd get sucked in by it all.
2. Share one of your experiences giving birth in haiku form.
I had to go look up the rules of a haiku poem, I admit it. Apparently it's 5-7-5. So here it goes.
Birth sees me induced
it always hurts and takes hours
when it's done, I'm glad
Not the greatest I admit, but hey, it follows the rules.
3. Have you ever been to the "thumbs down" next to the mitten?
I have never been out of the U.S. I have seen Canada from Sault St. Marie and I have seen Mexico from Arizona. I also have never seen an ocean in real life. I'm not well traveled.
4. Where would you move to if money and employment were no object?
Alaska or Australia. I think Australia is gorgeous, though the heat would get to me. Alaska has the perfect climate for me. Cold and more cold.
5. Are you really going to stay in and watch movies and order in Chinese on Christmas?
We've talked, and we may go out to the chinese buffet place in town we really like, other than that, yes, we really are going to sit at home and watch movies and eat chinese food. We do so much travelling AFTER Christmas, it's our treat to ourselves. Oh, the kids get to open their stockings and ONE gift from under the tree.
Do you want to be part of it? Then follow these instructions:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

You Might Not Know That I...
...Drive no more than 9 miles over the speed limit on the highway because I've gotten so many tickets I'm now paranoid, unless I'm in Chicago, then all bets are off
...have 2 close friends in real life and don't have the desire for more, unless I meet some of my "mommy" friends, as Jason calls them.
...wanted to name Jayden "Jaydenya" (say it with me...Jay-Den-Ya, mom claimed she couldn't pronounce it) and call her Jayd and my mom talked me out of it, and I'm upset because now Jayden is such a popular BOYS name
...grew up with a BOYS name and swore I'd never do that to my girls, and I did inadvertently
...usually read the first three chapters of a book, skip to the last one, read that, and then go back to the rest of the book
...have a very strange thought process and when you talk to me "in real life" I tend to not make sense unless I take the time to explain how my brain went from point A to China and then Antarctica and back
...started therapy yesterday, and I liked it.
...love mood rings and mood beads and all those cool things like that
...feel like I was born a generation too late because I love all that hippy dippy crap
...make jewelry that I give away or shove in a box and never see again, I don't wear it, I don't know why, though I really like what I make
...love to cook big big meals
...collect barbies, not like super crazy collect, but I own 3 that I won't let Jayden play with
...love the Dodge Viper and the F150 Ford truck
...owned a 2001 Ford F150 Extended Cab 4x4 Offroad with the V8 Titan Engine, and I LOVED that truck, and I gave it up for a mini van, which I don't really like, so that we would have more room for our family
...collect teddy bears, when I was little it was stuffed bears, now it is ceramic ones
...would rather have salt than sugar
...love to shop but hate shopping for stuff for myself, I always feel so self-conscious in what I am wearing
...really like classical music and Jason and I are going to the symphony next Friday for a grown up adults only date
...every one of my kids are named after a member of the family or, in some cases, two in some way or another
...recently discovered that I have A.D.D. and I won't be taking meds, at least not right now
...love nail polish and I own all kinds of "weird" colors
...think buffalo chicken ROCKS!
...talk to my ex-MIL on the phone more than I talk to my own mom, though Ma lives in Wisconsin and I see her maybe once a year
...can't accurately remember the birth stats of my kids...oops, there are FIVE of them after all
...think Sweetwaters is the BEST donuts ever ever ever made, hands down kicks Krispy Kreme's ass, and I know because we had a Krispy Kreme in town and it went out of business because Sweetwaters is 100 times better!
...was inspired by Miss Britt
...love shoes, all kinds, but I am cheap and won't pay more than $40 for a pair, and have only paid that much a handful of times
...love jewelry that I never wear, I have a whole jewelry box full
And I don't know that you...

It Has Come to My Attention...
That BlogHer is going to be in CHICAGO next summer! Chi-town is THREE hours from me, THREE HOURS!!!! Which means, I can go!!! Well, kind of. I wouldn't go the whole week, I don't think, maybe a long weekend.
Of coarse, I have to ask, can I even GO to BlogHer without being a part of the BlogHer network? I don't have the ads. I applied. I'm on the bottom of the list, the very long waiting list I'm sure.
Miss Britt has it posted on her blog. All about it. Now, I'm pretty sure I can party like the rest of them. I don't know most of them, though I DO read them, every gosh darn day for some! I wanna be part of the cool crowd MOM! Can I Can I Can I???? HUH HUH HUH????
Now, just to figure out HOW I'm going to tell Jason that I'm going to take a long weekend to Chicago to meet a ton of people I've never met (you too DAISY!) most likely by myself where he'll have to take time off of work and spend all that time with the kids. Wait, if I drive, I can bring the olders up to Linda in Wisconsin. Now THERE'S an idea. That will Jason home with Izzy.
I don't know how it'll work out, but now I have a focus, and I wanna go! I'll figure it out.
Prayers and blessings everyone. I hope you have a great Vetran's Day. Are you working today? Sometimes it's hard to figure out who works on Vetran's Day and who doesn't, ya know?
Edited to add, I'm a COOL KID now!!! I'm a BlogHer! Woohoo!!! Still no advertising, but that's all right. Now, I just need to get to the party....oh, and you can find me on the BlogHer network as, you guessed it, serialmommy. I know, SO inventive, right?

A New Post, Everyday
Apparently, in my ever loving insanity, I am now going to add posting every day to it. I dunno why, the idea struck me as cool. I even joined a community site dedicated to it, of all things. Check it out here. If you want to add me as a friend, if you decide to join up too, I'm listed as, yep, you guessed it Serial Mommy. Go figure, right? Oh, I got the idea from Lori over at yes, i MADE that. What the hey, join in the insanity!
I read Lori's blog regularly. I LOVE the projects that she does and she is VERY crafty. I read a lot of CRAFTY blogs. I also often wonder if I should be posting more pics of my craftiness. Here's the thing, I have lots of stuff in progress, but I don't finish much of it. I'm a slacker like that. I think this month, as I'm posting every day anyway, I'll start adding pics of crafts in their ongoing stages. Maybe it will encourage me to work on them more.
Today is Saturday. This weekend we are going to make donuts again. This time, I will make sure to document the process. I'll have Jason home to be able to document the frying process. It happens much too quickly for me to do it myself. I also want to make Cake Balls. Though I'm rather certain it WON'T be in the Halloween style. Probably just some fancy drippings and what not, just to see how they go over. Thanks PW for the recipe. I know the guys at Jason's work love when I bake because they get a TON of stuff sent in with Jason. We can't eat it all, and I really don't want the kids to be eating it all, though I KNOW they'd LOVE to!
Halloween went well yesterday. We went Trick or Treating in My Friend Jenn's neighborhood. The kids made out like little begger bandits. James was a pirate, and thank you Jenn for buying his costume for him. I never got to making his. The whole Cleaning the Dining Room Project has been consistently put off. Jayden was a fairy. She got a new skirt bought for her, to make her current dress a bit longer. Izzy was a Jester, left over from when James was one. I couldn't find the hat, and I doubt Izzy would have worn it anyway. Mom and Dad were, well, Mom and Dad. It DEFINATELY counted for our exercise. It also gave me a great teaching point because James wanted to know who invented Halloween. So I'm going to hop on over to Doc's site and use the Halloween Homeschool Chapter she has. Doc is great for listing free resources for Homeschoolers and I REALLY need to be using them more.
Novemer, while it is the month for most to prepare for the holidays, it is the Month of Organization for me. OOOOOOH, sounds scary. Hell yes it is! I'll be starting therapy this month. Exercising regularly. No excuses accepted. Cleaning up the house. Organizing all the stuff in our house. This is how I prepare for the Holidays. For Thanksgiving, everyone converges on my house, so it must be worthy of my MIL'S inspection.
Speaking of MIL'S. Every time mine visits, she goes through my bathroom cabinet, rearranges things in it, moves my dishes and towels around in the kitchen. All that kind of stuff. When we lived in our old apartment, she went through and closed all the blinds. I went behind her and opened them back up. My brother in law, in his wisdom, looked at me and said "It makes her happy, let her do it." I snapped back "But it doesn't make ME happy, and it's MY house." To which he promptly shut up.
Jason said I should let it go. I have a problem with that. It's MY house. I put things a certain way because that's how I want them. I don't want someone, anyone, coming behind me, and moving them around. Jason decided he was going to move the microwave around on the counter. I didn't like it that way, so I moved it back. I'm willing to give his idea a try because he lives here too. However, my MIL does not.
She is a nice lady. She has this need to be nosey. To go through things to know what is going on. I abhor that. I was raised that when in someone else's home, you respect their privacy. You leave their things where they lay. If I have a messy cabinet, so what, it's MY cabinet. I want to leave her a note. Jason said I can't. I asked him if I could move stuff around at HER house. He said "Whatever Jamie. I think you should leave it be, but whatever." I can't bring myself to do it.
It's such a VIOLATION of privacy. Am I wrong here? Should I just tolerate her snoopy behavior? As it is, when she is here, we close off our bedroom and office. We know she would LOVE to go through those spaces, so we close the doors. It would be too obvious of her to open them, so she doesn't. What would be the best way to go about handling this? It really does bother me, irritate me, and violates my space, and personal beliefs. Is there anything that can really BE done about it?
Prayers and blessings everyone. Tomorrow is Almost Silent Sunday and I'll have Trick or Treating pics for you all. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I Spy with My Little Eye
I've been Memed again. I love how I find them randomly and then get tagged that way, it's fun! Sophie had the Meme from Kat on her blog so I followed good naturedly over to Kat's blog and got memed myself! Her rules are to make it random and long winded, I believe I can do both. After all, one of my labels is "I digress". Uh, yeah. Oh, and consider yourself tagged. I think you should go over to Kat and get it from there, but hey, you don't wanna, that's all right, I'll pass it along from here.
By the way, at some point in the future, I will have my interview with Sophie completed (we are still in the emailing back and forth stage) and will post it up here. Huh? Interview? Why are you doing interviews? Head on over to Neil and you can figure it out. It's The Great Blog Interview. Sign up. Take it from there.
I'm going to do my meme with the help of a couple of pics. It's very random and has the potential for some great longwindedness. We are going to discuss The Things on My Desk at this Current Time. Here are the pics.

OK. See what I'm talking about, lots of things that are random. Let's start with the monitor. That wallpaper is something I won for completely a badge at Pogo . I love Pogo. They have all kinds of games you can play. A lot of them are free. Personally, I feel the $4.99 I pay a month for membership is WELL worth it.
The green mug in the foreground is a coffee mug. I have two of them that size. I got them on clearence from Meijer last year around Christmas time when I got my teapot. I've recently started drinking coffee. I've never been a coffee drinker before. I always found it too bitter for my liking. However, I need something that is less sugar than soda, and keeps the caffine kick up for a while. I tried some mixed flavored stuff at the gas station. It worked REALLY well. Now I'm making it at home. I take Folgers French Vanilla and some Instant Hot Cocoa and brew them together. When I make my cup of coffee, I use International Delights Irish Cream Refridgerated Creamer. MMMMMMM. Not a ton of sugar, like soda has. The caffine benefits are still there AND I'm not getting the sugar crash after a couple of hours like I would with Mt. Dew, Cherry Coke, and Dr. Pepper. Also, the coffee is cheaper per serving.
I love the lamp on my desk. It used to sit in the dining room. We moved things around out there and it wasn't being used, so I put it on the desk. The shade has some great beading on it, and the base is wood. It's cute and ecclectic, like me! We have 2 of them. The other is in the bedroom on Jason's side of the bed for a reading lamp.
The bottle of lotion is Bath and Body Works Pleasures in Mango Mandarin scent. They don't make it any more. I've had that bottle for a couple of years at least. The lotion doesn't work so great as lotion any more, however the scent is still strong and wonderful so I'll use it for that.
Ah yes, the pill bottles. The ones that are free standing belong to James. I turned them so you can't read his full name, our address, or the meds he's taking. I don't think the world at large needs to know those things, do you? yes, there are 4 bottles. He actually takes 5 meds a day. 2 in the mornings, 3 at night.
Next to James' meds is a dragon Jason made for me out of polymer clay. The green thing laying down is a really cool green man also made of polymer clay. When it is daylight, I'll set it up so I can take a better pic of it (the green man). He's really cute. The brown woman is also made of polymer clay. She's a tree nymph. Jason has a LOT of talent when it comes to using the clay to make shapes and what not. I've asked him to make me beads for my knot work. Like me, he is Gemini and we are procrastinators. I suppose if I ever get to the point of needing the beads, he'll get to the point of making them for me.
We only drink Aquafina water. I've tried others and I don't like the flavor. I like aquafina because it's flavorless, no after taste. To me, that's how water should taste. More often than not, the kids drink from the tap. They need the flouride. They have large refillable bottles to drink from.
The packet of papers next to the monitor is my notepad, a bill I need to call on, my checkbook, and some forms I need to fill out for James. The notepad is all important. When I'm writing things down while on the phone, or making shopping lists, that pad is where I go.
The metal pen holder is a recent addition to the desk. It's been about 4 or 5 months that I've had it. I needed something more suited to holding pens and misc. desk crap. Currently it has my scrip for folic acid, my bottle of baby asprin, a bunch of pens, sharpies, and highlighters, a staple remover, 2 nail clippers, a pencil sharpener, a nail file, a seam ripper, and a heart shaped piece of jade. In the drawer are staples.
My mouse pad says "Little Miss Trouble". I thought it was cute and for only $1 at Target, a deal I couldn't pass up. That mouse pad changes regularly, about every 6 months or so. I've got quite a few of them around the house.
There is a regular deck of Bicycle brand (in blue) cards and a deck of cards specifically for the game war. They are big and meant to be a little more child friendly in size. I recently (as in the last month) taught the kids how to play war and I am still teaching James how to play Gin. Once he has Gin down, we are moving on to Rummy.
The screwdriver is my favorite and most used tool. It has an adjustable shaft/tip combo that is good for 5 different needs. 2 philips, 2 straight edge, and one nut tightener. I am CONSTANTLY trying to figure out where the thing is. It gets put in all kinds of places.
There are coupons for ciggies for Jason, and for a local pizza place. Receipts from shopping that need to be tossed or organized. A strand of hemp that I'm using as a belly measurement for the Biggest Loser competition I'm in on one of the message boards I belong to. I can't find any of my fabric tape measures, something else that happens frequently around here, so this is my substitute. I also have the ruler I used for it on here as well. The papers have random numbers and needed info on them. Notes from Jason's game playing.
If you look under the monitor, you will see a window lock (it came off and hasn't been put back on), another seam ripper, some misc papers (cards for hot tubs and bank account info) and a lot of water bottle caps. I take the caps off and then just never put them back on once the bottle is done. Go figure. On the main part of the desk there is also a pen (black) and a half eaten pretzel rod (thank you Izzy). The 2 cd's that you can see are The Sims Making Magic, both discs.
The batteries are AA in size and the size that we most frequently go through. I really need to buy stock in Rayovac because it seems like once a month I'm buying a big pack of them. Behind James' meds is a roll of wide masking tape.
Now keep in mind, I have no idea how or why most of this random stuff is up here. It just is. It either is in it's place, or it hasn't been put in it's place, or it doesn't have a place and it is using the desk as it's temporary home. Do you think you can learn a lot from someone by looking at their desk? Did you learn a lot from mine?
Prayers and blessings everyone. Monday was a pretty stressful day to me, and now Tuesday won't be much better, so I hope you don't mind my random meanderings as a pleasent distraction. Yes, it really is 5:43 in the morning now. It's a long drawn out story for another day. Have a pleasent day yourselves.

Hair Dye in My Ear
I know it's an odd title. Here's why I'm going with it. Tonight I decided to dye my hair. Now this is an occurance that is pretty regular. I do it about every 2 months or so, when the roots get a good inch or so showing. I don't always go back to the same combo of colors either. I like the change. I tend to favor a blondish red base with blonde highlights however. I do them at home as well. I don't see paying the salon price for it when I can do it as well from home.
So tonight I'm dying my hair, yet again. It'll be different this time. I'm doing a blonde base with an unnatural colored highlight. Dark purple to be exact. I know, it's ODD. What brought it about is this. Earlier tonight (remember, I'm still on Monday, no matter what the header says) I was playing a game on Pogo.com called "Makeover Madness" where the customers come to your "salon" and hold up cards of the hairdo's they want from the ones scrolling at the bottom. Some of them are quite extreme, like shaving the head, and others are rather unnatural colors like bright blue and neon pink and green. I jokingly said to Jason, as he was bathing Izzy "I'm going to dye my hair pink." and Jayden said "I want pink hair too, I love pink!" Jason said "Um, OK".
That's my husband. His feeling on it is that it's my hair, do what I want with it. Which is great. I've had men dictate how they wanted my hair. I've even had them tell me I "couldn't" do certain things with my hair. I would then do exactly what they told me I "couldn't" only to the more extreme. To give an example, I was once told I "couldn't" cut my hair. I took the scissors and cut it off to the scalp. Jason doesn't care. He knows I'm the one that has to deal with it so it really doesn't matter what I do to it.
My plan was to go blonde and then do a purple or blue or pink highlight in it. However, with the blonde I have here in the house, it turned it more blondish red than blonde. The hair dye in the ear actually did take place. Tonight. Right in to the ear. Feels weird and is very hard to get out. So now I'm going to let the red sit for a couple of days and then go in search of a BLONDE blonde.
Wish me luck on diminishing the red. It's a natural undertone anyway, so making it hide is difficult on a good day. Maybe I won't be doing an "odd" color after all. I mean, what color goes with red? Black? Can we say Ewww. Purple is certainly out, at least for the moment. Red is rather redundant, and pink just doesn't make sense. There is the option of blue, however odds are it would come out looking purple and that brings us back to that option being out.
Prayers and blessings all. I wish you all good luck. And Sophie, I'll be reading your blog tomorrow, my internet was out this weekend. I'll send you along some questions and take it from there. K?

Let's Talk About Sex.
Yeah, I did it again. It never is what you think it will be, is it? Though in this instance, it IS a bit like that. I have another blog. I've been trying to figure out how to write sex. I don't want bad Penthouse letter porn and I don't want cheesy bodice rippers either. I have abandoned my attempts lately. Not really sure why.
I changed over the other blog so that when you go to click on it, it will ask you if you want to continue because you may see some naughty things. OK, it doesn't say QUITE that. I believe the jist is "adult content". Wouldn't THIS blog be adult content too? Don't get yourself in a tizzy, because I'm rather certain it isn't. Not like the other one. Where is my other one? Do I have your curiosity peaked? Click on my name and it will take you to my profile, and it's listed there OR you can scroll down to the blog roll on the right, and it's called "A Serial Mommy's Muse". You never know what you might come across there. I don't have a stat counter on there right now, though I think I will be adding one. Not one that tells me how folks find me though, I'm just not THAT curious about it.
Back to the sex talk. Have you ever seen "Legends of the Fall"? As far as I know, it's Rated R. There is a scene, and if you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's the ONLY sex scene in the ENTIRE movie. Brad Pitt (when he was much younger, think just after Thelma and Louise came out) and super buff is having sex with the girl. I'm sorry, I have NO idea who the girl is, though she reminds me of Andie McDowell, though she isn't. The scene is NAUGHTY. No penis shots, no vagina shots, but that's it. There is NOTHING left to the imagination about what kind of shape these two people are in. And they DO IT, in all kinds of ways.
OK, do you understand now why I don't know the actress's name? When I picture it in my head, it's VERY firmly Brad Pitt, and some soft young thing. Sexy to me all the way around. Every time I see that scene, I want to go wake up Jason (because I'm usually watching that movie at night, after everyone has gone to bed, while doing some yarn work) and do those very things to him.
Most bloggers I have read don't talk about their sex lives. At least not in detail, I can appreciate that. Boundries, privacy, all that jive. The only one recently, that comes to mind is Miss Britt, oh and Citizen of the Month. Though her honking hubby and his talking penis aren't about sex really, more like the lead in to it.
Oh well. That imagery of Brad Pitt and the nameless Andie McDowell look alike actress stays with me frequently. It makes me sigh and smile and then go find Jason. You know what he thinks of that? It's not unlike looking at porn. That simple. Well I'm glad he sees it that way because "Sweetie, Honey, Darling Hubby, you were Brad Pitt tonight, at least kind of, Love you"
So I leave you on that. Prayers and Blessings everyone. Enjoy your imagery, and let it infuse your life. And like my good pal Forrest Gump said "It's like a box o' chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get". :-D
